Vancouver Police are asking for the public’s help to solve the mystery surrounding a man’s serious head injury.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30th, a 58-year-old man watched the hockey game at home and went for a walk in the Kits Beach area. He returned home around 10:30 p.m. and appeared dazed and confused, suffering from what appeared to be a minor head injury. When asked about the wounds by his partner, he recalled being in a confrontation with somebody at the beach, but couldn’t provide any details about what had transpired.

He was left to rest at home that night, but was found unresponsive the following day. He was rushed to hospital where he underwent two surgeries to repair a life-threatening brain bleed. He remains in hospital in critical condition.

Police continue to investigate the cause of his injuries and have conducted an extensive video and witness canvass in the surrounding neighbourhood.

“The exact cause of this man’s injuries remains a mystery,” says VPD spokesperson, Brian Montague. “We are looking for the public’s help to put the pieces of this puzzle together.”

The man is white, 5’10” tall, with a heavy build, short salt-and-pepper hair, and a dark complexion. At the time, he was wearing a New York Yankees baseball hat, an orange t-shirt, cargo shorts, flip-flops and he was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2541
