Just after 4:30 p.m. today, near West 18th Avenue and Manitoba Street, Vancouver Police officers encountered a distraught man‎ in his early 30s, who confronted them with a weapon.

Police officers attempted to negotiate with the man and used less-lethal options to disarm him but subsequently shot the man. Officers were not physically injured and the man was rushed to hospital where he is in critical condition.

The investigation has been turned over to the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO). There is no further information to release at this time and any further inquiries can be directed to the IIO.
